Vinyl in the Studio - Artists’ record sleeves in Belgium

The vinyl Long Playing record, or LP, was introduced in 1948 and is once more just as cutting edge as it was then. Today, the LP is enjoying a revival thanks to the renewed interest of rock and pop music lovers who collect limited editions. Belgium has a healthy experimental music scene that has been always open to artists and their artwork. Vinyl in the Studio. Artists’ record sleeves in Belgium is an exhibition of record sleeves from the period 1970 to the present day: they were designed by Belgian artists, or foreign artists who lived in Belgium, such as Mark Verstockt, Danny Devos, Dennis Tyfus, Marc Nagtzaam, Kendell Geers…
The library of Mu.ZEE was chosen as exhibition space because of certain parallels that can be drawn between a vinyl-record and a book: both media fulfil an archive function and, as objects, have increased in significance in recent years.
