On 21 July 1958, Victor Servranckx wrote a postcard to the Hoeboer family, friends who lived nearby. He addressed them: Hoe? Boer! - De Boeren zijn de besten!

The immediate reason for this exhibition is a large donation of about 100 artworks by the heirs of Wout Hoeboer (1910-1983). His work fits into the series of exhibitions that began at Mu.ZEE in 2008 with presentations dedicated to artists such as Victor Servranckx, E.L.T. Mesens, Paul Joostens, Jules Schmalzigaug and others.

Hoeboer is interesting through an experimental artistic legacy that leaves room for innovative study. His multimedia oeuvre is always recognisable, while it truly goes in every direction. As an anti-conformist Dada dandy, he moved between various avant-garde groups and filtered out the ideas of friends, acquaintances and colleagues. For instance, his work uniquely connects inspiration from the Merz by Kurt Schwitters or the Dada universe of Paul Joostens with the abstract art of Wassily Kandinsky and Bauhaus constructivism. Hoeboer’s oeuvre also allows you to draw lines between his Dilbeek friends, Victor Servranckx and Jean Brusselmans. His work explodes art-historical divisions between Abstract art, Dada, Surrealism and CoBrA. He produced Nuclear Art and action paintings. Pamapadada!
