Who will bring “Fat René” back to our Marinette?

Our Marinette is ready to shine in the upcoming exhibition Statuettes. Small Sculpture at Home (from 28.03.2026, Venetian Galleries).

She is one of two bronze statuettes created by Léopold Harzé at the end of the 19th century, inspired by the comic characters from Molière’s Le Dépit amoureux: a sparkling Marinette and her great love Gros René, affectionately known as “Fat René”, both about 29 cm high, signed Leop. Harzé and cast by the Compagnie des Bronzes de Bruxelles.

Our Marinette is eagerly waiting, but without her faithful “Fat René”, the story remains incomplete.

That is why we are launching a heartfelt appeal today: help us find a copy of Gros René before the opening!
Do you have such a bronze statuette at home, or do you know someone who does?

Please email us at info@muzee.be. We would love to temporarily reunite this loving duo in our exhibition on small domestic sculpture — and perhaps include your story as well.
