This focus exhibition highlights the work of Wim Delvoye through key pieces from the collections of Mu.ZEE and the Flemish Community. It runs alongside the exhibition Statuettes. Small Sculpture at Home and offers an additional perspective on the collection: from an iconic installation to playful publications and editions that reveal the versatility of Delvoye’s oeuvre.

Sewage pipes on ceramic legs, a concrete mixer rendered in intricate woodcarving, a painted Persian carpet: the contrasts in Wim Delvoye's work call into question the codes and conventions of the art world. Delvoye unites craftsmanship and industry in postmodern installations where present and past converge. His works are like emulsions, in which the individual components remain distinguishable even as they coalesce into a cross-cultural celebration. With a witty nod to the economic strategies of multinational corporations, Delvoye developed his own brand and merchandising.

Several key works are held in the collections of Mu.ZEE and the Flemish Community. Bidjar (1986) was acquired shortly after Delvoye created it and presented it at the age of twenty-one. Concrete Mixer RL 2.93–94 (1992–94) and Chantier IV (1994) were subsequently purchased in 1995 and in 1996 by the Flemish Community and the Province of West Flanders respectively. The collection was recently enriched by a gift from the artist (Wim Delvoye Action Doll #1, 2007, and Wim Delvoye Action Doll #2, 2008). The museum's library and archive further hold numerous publications and documents that contextualise Delvoye's acquisitions and oeuvre.
