With an Open Mind

Interactive tour in dialogue

This tour is inspired by the Visual Thinking Strategies method.

Together with the group, you will look at and discuss several artworks with an open mind. The guide mainly acts as a moderator. They ask questions, reflect on what is being said, and probe further. There are no wrong answers, as the basic question is what can be seen. What someone sees in an artwork can differ greatly from person to person. You look through your own frame of reference and experiences. Maybe you adjust your idea when you hear another person’s perspective? Or build upon what someone else says? Together, you get much more out of an artwork than you would alone!

The method is inspired by Visual Thinking Strategies, developed by MoMA in New York. Since visitors tend to retain little from a guided tour when the information does not connect to their own world, this method is based on the contributions of the visitor, not the guide’s knowledge. Everyone, regardless of education or cultural background, can participate, no prior knowledge is required. By naming what you see, you learn to observe more closely. By hearing different perspectives, you broaden your view.
